Following
in the traditions of Bob Marley, the Clash, Linton Kwesi Johnson
and Rage against the Machine, Peklectrick mixes grievances with
grooves to present an eclectic brand of guitar-driven protest music
containing elements of rock, reggae, blues and funk, a punk rock
ethos and a tongue in cheek. The music is delivered in a laid-back
vocal style that lies somewhere between spoken-word and rapping,
making it simultaneously introspective and agitative.
‘It’s not my revolution if I can’t
dance to it’ – Emma Goldman
‘Reclaiming Space’ contains ten rhythmic and energetic
protest songs with which to tap your feet and shake your backside.
The songs - ranging from reggae and dub to more funky and bluesy
numbers - are fit for both activists who like a soundtrack for their
struggles, as well as for those who just like to get down and boogie.
Fighting racism, war and global injustice need not be done at the
expense of good vibes and a pogo dance. The word is indeed a weapon,
but so are the drums and the strums.
From the hopeful, sunny vibes of ‘Lamppost Boogie’ to
the ironic tone on ‘Camara Reggae’, ‘Reclaiming
Space’ presents you with a wide variety of feelings, textures
and rhythms that will compliment your various moods. Whether you
are preparing for a night on the town, or preparing to transform
the global world order ‘Reclaiming Space’ could easily
be playing in your background.
