Michael Bugeja (The Sunday Times)
There’s
a strong dub lean at play here; one that filters through the whole
album from start to finish. In places (the title track for example)
it evolves into a groove, while in others, such as Banquet Beat
or ASAP for example, this is given a rock edge that shifts the musical
bearing to another level. Elsewhere, Galea digs deeper into vintage
ska (Lamp-post Boogie), ambient (Word Dub) and white reggae shuffles
(Six Strings) extending the musical focus of the album. Summed up,
Reclaiming Space, recorded with David Vella at Temple Studios and
featuring various guest musicians, is a political record –
not partisan – but vocal in its intent and succinctly so,
while its musical overview, as stated earlier, owes much to skanking
guitar, deep bass lines and sharp brass interjections, but in every
sense, Peklectrick has gone where no other local artists I know
of have ventured before!
