The
Story - Recording 'Reclaiming Space'
Creating ‘Reclaiming Space’ felt like a mammoth journey
that never seemed to end. It would be about three years from the
time I started fiddling about on a digital multi-track recorder
till I got to listen to the studio treatment of the songs that had
caused my neighbours, my family and my cat so many headaches. The
delay owed itself to a number of reasons. First, juggling a full-time
job, a part-time degree and a solo music career can be a bit tricky,
particularly when the 25th hour of the day remains mischievously
elusive. Secondly, writing by oneself, albeit highly rewarding,
is also very time-consuming and the time to finish songs grows exponentially.
Further to this, the extremely busy schedules of David Vella (producer/engineer)
and myself meant that finding a slot for the recording sessions
was tough. Consequently, recording sessions had to be spread over
a whole year. Yet despite the wait, the making of ‘Reclaiming
Space’ proved to be a very interesting chapter in my life.
